About Us

The UC Davis Campus Mass Spectrometry Facilities (CMSF) provides open access, high quality, and cost-effective mass spectrometry services for the entire UC Davis community. As a designated UC Davis Campus Research Core Facility under the Office of Research, CMSF is focused on providing quality resources in mass spectrometry to meet the research needs of the campus, in line with the university's service mission as an academic institution. As such, we provide training in the fundamentals of mass spectrometry and the operation of mass spectrometry instrumentation to graduate students, postdoctoral scholars, and staff on a membership basis, including troubleshooting and technical support.

In addition to our duties in training and instrument maintenance, CMSF analyzes individual submitted samples for a low recharge fee. We specialize in the analysis of small molecules, peptides, carbohydrates, and oligonucleotides, as well as intact mass analysis of large proteins. We also participate in several collaborative research projects across campus.

Our client list includes members from each College on campus, as well as the Schools of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine. Our clients utilize CMSF for research projects such as protein identification and characterization, novel protein sequencing, protein post-translational modification identification and quantitation, oligonucleotide modification and confirmation, novel metabolite characterization, and de novo peptide sequencing. Our facilities analyze over 18,000 individual samples each year.

As a designated Campus Research Core Facility, we are partnered with the other Core Facilities such as NMR and ICP-MS.  Please visit the UC Davis Core Facilities Program website to learn more about these facilities and their services: Research Core Facilities Program.
