The Campus Mass Spectrometry Facilities (CMSF) is a designated UC Davis Campus Research Core Facility under the Office of Research Core Facilities Program, providing open-access mass spectrometry support to the entire UC Davis community. Additionally, we offer several mass spectrometry services to outside educational and commercial organizations.  We analyze over 18,000 samples per year.

Mission Statement

The UC Davis Campus Mass Spectrometry Facilities (CMSF) is dedicated to providing open access, high quality, and cost-effective resources in mass spectrometry to meet the research needs of the UC Davis community. Its focus is to provide training in the fundamentals of mass spectrometry and the operation of mass spectrometry instrumentation to enhance the scientific training and competitiveness of UC Davis graduate students, postdoctoral scholars, and staff.

What mass spectrometry data would best support your project? Here are just some of the services that we offer:

  • High resolution mass measurements
  • Small molecule identification
  • Peptide sequencing
  • Proteomics, aka protein identification and also PTM analysis
  • Large protein intact mass measurements
  • Oligonucleotide analysis

In addition, our membership program offers the following benefits:

  • Open access use of state-of-the-art instrumentation, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
  • Training and consultation for up to two lab members
  • No annual limit on the number of samples analyzed
  • Technical support
  • All for one low annual recharge fee! (fiscal year)

As a designated Campus Research Core Facility, we are partnered with the other Core Facilities such as NMR and ICP-MS. Please visit the UC Davis Core Facilities Program website to learn more about these other facilities and their services: Research Core Facilities Program.

The Campus Mass Spectrometry Facilities are supported by a number of funding sources.  Please acknowledge the facility in your publications by stating "Analysis for this project was performed in the UC Davis Campus Mass Spectrometry Facilities."

What's New?

As of May 2017, we have a brand new Agilent 6420A triple-quadrupole LCMS system which can be used for routine quantitation down to the low ppb level.

Please contact us regarding its capabilities.
