FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Where are you located?

Our main facility is located in the basement of Hutchison Hall in room 9.

What are your hours?

We are generally open from 9-5 Monday through Friday, year-round, excluding university holidays. Clients with active memberships can apply for a keycard for after-hours access. Contact us for more information.

What are your rates?

Our current sample rate is $58 for University of California campuses for accurate mass measurements while a LCMS run is $83.  A 7-digit DaFIS account number is required for UCD submissions. Our non-UC and for-profit rates are higher; please contact us regarding these rates.

Our current open-access rate for UCD clients is $8/hour of instrument time.  Open-access training typically takes 2-3 hours of staff time as well which is billed at $32/hour and is required.  Open-access users must provide all their own consumables such as MALDI matrix, plates, LC columns, vials, etc.

Off-campus clients need to contact us first regarding their samples and analysis needs.  In addition, we will need you to fill out a billing information form (PDF) before we can start work on your sample as well as having a signed Legal Agreement in place. Please contact us for those two forms.

You may also wish to check with your administrative office how they wish to be billed as well before submitting samples.

What is your typical turn-around time?

Our turn-around time for HRMS and MALDI analysis is typically 2-3 business days but can take longer if we have a heavy volume of submitted samples.

For LCMS and nanoESI analysis, including protein IDs, our typical turn-around time is one to two weeks.  As we are supported by the UC Davis campus, priority will be given to on-campus samples.

Are you open to collaborations?

Yes! Please contact us for a consultation appointment. Collaborative projects that require non-routine analysis generally entail co-authorship.
